Five Minute Friday: Ten Lessons in Ten Years

Here I go . . . Five minutes on the clock . . .  GO!

Then Things I've Learned in the Past Ten Years

1)  "It's not the end of the world."  Although sometimes things happen and it certainly feels as if the world is coming to an end, our world does not come to an end until God says so.  As long as He has us living and breathing there's something He has for us to do.  So, if I come to a situation that seems impossible, and I'm helpless to take care of it, and the worst happens, and it seems as if I've reached the end of the world, guess who's there waiting for me ~  God.  So, the end of the world is not the end, God is there.

2)  Everyone is battling something.  I used to get irritated when a stranger was rude because I thought, "Hey, I didn't do anything to you.  What's up with that?"  But, as I've matured and have seen we all go through things, and we all handle things differently, everyone is struggling.  So, I don't take things as personally as I used to.  I know that many things that go down, even if directed towards me, has very little to do with me.  "It's not the end of the world!"

3)  I don't need as many things as I used to think I did.  Sometimes we think we need all these things.  We have to have them, and when we get them home we use them once or twice and they just end up cluttering up cabinets and closets.  So, now, I only buy what I know and believe, I need.  Less is more.

4)  I used to take out an entire day to clean my house and exhaust myself that day.  I don't do that anymore.  I clean different things on different days.  It's easier and less exhausting.

5)  I used to wash clothes on Saturdays and have multiple loads of washing that never got done in one day, forcing me to finish on Sundays.  No more.  I wash a load a day now, no more loads and loads of washing.

6)  I've learned that waiting is not such a bad thing.  Sometimes waiting allows you to really think about what you really want and you can make a more informed decision.  There's a balance, of course.  Waiting too long is not good either.

7)  "Not everything that shines is gold."  It's important to study choices, whatever they might be, and see how these choices are beneficial or jeopardizing.  Sometimes things look good on the surface, but they will not work for you.  And, sometimes we would never consider a certain detail, and it may have been a deal changer. Asking the Lord to help us see beyond the surface of things is always a good idea.

8)  Kids grow up way too fast.  When they're little it feels like they'll be little forever, but in reality, that time is so limited.  I guess, what's important is to enjoy every season with your kids, even the difficult ones, if possible.  Because, then those times become memories and it's good to look back and smile.

9) There will always be disappointments in life and joy stealers.  But, if we purpose in our hearts to hold onto hope, and faith, and joy, and love, then no one or no thing can steal away what God has so lovingly provided for us.  I hold onto my peace now with intention.  It means the world to me.

10)  I learned about blogging.  Ten years ago I would have never thought that I'd be blogging today.  Yet, lo and behold, here I am.  Mind boggling.

So, there it is.  Five minutes . . . (I think I may have taken 15.  Sorry~)  Great exercise, although it's not as easy as it sounds.  I may try this exercise with my student journals.

Enjoy your Friday.

  2. Great list! My five minutes often turns into more, but it's good, because that means I'm loving it! ;) I appreciate hearing how you've changed the ways you clean the house. I struggle with feeling I "should" do things like my mom did. But I'm so different from her. Bless you! I hope you have a laundry free weekend!

    1. We're all different and we do things differently. I don't do things like my mom, either. What matters is that we get the job done one way or another ~ Thank you for your visit :)

  4. Hi, Damarise! So glad you've joined the FMF tribe. :)

#4 on your list is something that I've been thinking about a lot lately. I grew up with Saturday as "chore day," so it has always made sense to me as an adult to do all the housework on that day. But it's not working as well as it used to as my life has changed. I'm glad to know that someone else is in that boat with me. Definitely something I need to think about, plan for and change!

    1. I agree. After working all week long, the last thing we want to do is take an entire weekend day for cleaning. If we do a little each day, then we don't have so much to do at the end of the week. Thank you so much for the visit. :)
